108 Sacred Abodes of Lord Vishnu
Divya Desam Yatra
South India's sacred Vishnu temples, revered by the Alvar saints.
About this Circuit
The Divya Desams are 108 Vishnu temples glorified in the Nalayira Divya Prabandham — 4,000 verses composed by the twelve Alvar saints between the 6th and 9th centuries CE. Located primarily in Tamil Nadu with a few in Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Karnataka, completing all 108 is considered among the greatest Vaishnava achievements. Each temple enshrines a unique form of Vishnu with a distinct name, and the associated Alvar verses are sung during daily worship to this day.
Pilgrim Tip
Most pilgrims cover the Tamil Nadu Divya Desams over 10–15 days. The Trichy–Kumbakonam–Mayiladuthurai belt alone has over 40 of the 108 shrines within a 60 km radius.
