A 12th-century CE Hoysala masterpiece — considered one of the finest examples of Hoysala art after Belur and Halebid. Built by Buci, a minister of King Vishnuvardhana. Four shrines face the cardinal directions; the Channakeshava and Lakshmi Narayana shrines have exceptionally fine sculptures. A hidden gem of Karnataka heritage.
History & Significance
History
Built in 1113 CE, this temple predates Belur (1117 CE) and represents the early flowering of the Hoysala style. The sculpture quality rivals anything in Belur. The temple was rediscovered by archaeologists in the 20th century and is now protected by the Archaeological Survey of India.
