The brindavana (sacred burial shrine) of Sri Raghavendra Swamy — the 17th-century saint-philosopher of the Dvaita Vedanta tradition — at Mantralayam on the Tungabhadra. One of the most visited religious sites in South India, drawing over 1 crore pilgrims annually. The saint is believed to be in a state of living samadhi within the brindavana.

Significance

Sri Raghavendra Swamy (1595–1671 CE) voluntarily entered the brindavana (living samadhi) and is believed to remain alive for 700 years within it. Devotees report miracles and answered prayers here. The Math (monastery) runs free meals (anna prasad) for all pilgrims.
