History & Significance
Significance
One of the six Arupadaiveedu, sacred hill abodes of Lord Murugan, and among the most-visited Murugan temples anywhere. Tradition holds that Murugan retreated here as an ascetic (Pazhani, 'the ripe fruit of wisdom') after a dispute over a divine fruit with his brother Ganesha — the temple's vibhuti (sacred ash) offering is especially renowned.
