The temple's 'Vadapathrasayi' (Vishnu reclining on a banyan leaf) is extraordinarily beautiful.
History & Significance
Significance
A Divya Desam and the traditional birthplace of Andal, the only woman among the twelve Alvar saints of Tamil Vaishnavism, said to have been found as an infant beneath a tulsi plant by the temple priest Periyalvar. Andal's own verses, the Thiruppavai, are recited widely across Tamil Vaishnava households every Margazhi month; the temple's tower appears on the Tamil Nadu state government's official emblem.
