The first among the twelve Jyotirlinga shrines of Lord Shiva, on the Gujarat coast, with a temple recorded at the site since ancient times. Repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt over the centuries, the present structure was reconstructed in Chalukya style under the guidance of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, consecrated in 1951.
