History & Significance
Significance
Ananthapura is considered the 'moolasthana' (original abode) of the Ananthapadmanabha idol that was later installed at Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram. The sacred crocodile Babiya, believed to be the reincarnation of a devotee, has lived peacefully in the lake for decades.
