History & Significance

History

The Kadri temple began as a Buddhist site before becoming a Shaivite temple. The remarkable bronze idols found here — particularly the giant Lokeshwara (979 CE) — are among the finest examples of South Indian metalwork and indicate the temple's layered religious history.
